Message from the Local Authority

As the situation with coronavirus continues to develop we are asking you to carefully consider whether or not your child needs to be in school

We appreciate that the central government guidance around what constitutes a key worker is quite broad, however we would like to remind you that the reason schools are remaining open is primarily to ensure that those frontline workers, who are key to helping this country get through this situation, can get to work

Each school will have different levels of demand for these places and may handle this situation differently in order to ensure the welfare of all staff and children.  We ask you to respect any restrictions your school may put in place to help them cope during these challenging times.

Finally can we remind you that in line with Public Health England guidance, the best place for your child, wherever possible is at home with you, helping to maintain good social distancing for our wider community.

Please click Government Advice for Parents, which includes important information on how to support the children through this time away from school.

Letter to parents 20.05.20

We have been on lockdown for some time now due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Schools have been closed and most children have stayed home. The message has been to stay home to stay safe, so the news of gradual re-openings of schools may bring up a range of emotions. Just like after the school holidays it is important to prepare children for the return to school and the accompanying routines.

Here is a document, created by Durham County Council, which gives some great ideas and support for families.

How to Support your Child

It is with great pride that we welcome you to our school.

St. Charles School dates back to 1873, and is situated in extensive grounds on Durham Road in Spennymoor.

The community of St. Charles School believes that Jesus is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to giving every child, every opportunity to achieve their potential in mind and body in a happy, safe and caring environment. Our staff strive to provide excellent opportunities for our children to enjoy and succeed. We are blessed with wonderful children. They have a great attitude to their learning and towards each other through mutual respect.

Our families, governors and our parishes play an important role in the success of our school. We really appreciate the support they give in making St. Charles’ a really special community.
