The Pupil Governors of St Charles’ are running a new campaign and would like the help of our families and local community. We are going to be working with Kidshelp Cambodia – England, a Durham based charity who work alongside the Khmer Sight Foundation.
Kidshelp works with Khmer Sight and collects used spectacles, which they can sort, grade, refurbish and distribute to adults, and children, in need in the poorest countries in the world. One of the countries they work with, is Cambodia, which is the 122 poorest country in the world with average household income of 0 per month. Many children leave school at age 12 to work in agriculture and it is estimated that 180,000 adults are blind, of which 79% are curable and 11% were avoidable. Both charities not only try to help provide spectacles for those who need them, but help with fund vital operations to hopefully cure some of the many sight illnesses and conditions.
This is why we need your help. If you have any old spectacles, or know of anyone who does, the Pupil Governors will be collecting them in school, and passing them on to the Kidshelp charity, here in Durham. We hope to send our collection off, before the end of the summer term.
Pupils, and families, are welcome to bring them into school, where we will have a collection box for them to be placed.
We would to thank you all for your help and support.
